NAMASTE

“Why am I here — doing this?”

It’s a question I return to often. It keeps me aligned with dharma — being; the ability to tune into and full-fill the need of the hour. To the best of ones ability without being attached to the outcome, rather, striving for excellence, with presence, in the current moment, each moment.

Born half Sri Lankan and half Australian, I was raised with the ancient philosophies of Buddhism woven quietly through my upbringing. Early on, I became intrigued by the mystery of life and death — one of natures many fascinating cycles of creation and destruction that pulse through everything. That pulse through Kali (ma), my ishta (god/ goddess guide) and namesake too.

Having experienced an unusual amount of death for someone growing up in Australia, I searched high and wide to try to truly understand the departures of loved ones, not just as a tragedy or trauma but as transcendence.

The yogi's don't say "We lost them" they say "They have gone to para (पर Higher/ beyond/ The ultimate)". One of my teachers would say, “They have dropped their body.” It's a beautiful concept to think of someone returning to energy, to source, to the infinite field.

It’s the breath that bridges those two worlds — the first act of life is taking our first breath, and the final act is releasing our last.

This developed a deep reverence for breath in me and became the foundation of my path. Upon discovering how conscious breathing can regulate the heart, calm the nervous system, help heal dis-ease and bring peace where chaos once lived.

Through life’s weight came clarity, blessings revealed themselves when they were initially disguised as bourdons. Perspectives shifted. The knowing that what matters most is how we hold and spend our precious energy and how we meet each moment. That we are more powerful than we think and play a crucial role in the conscious collective.

Maha Kali translates to divine mother of action in time. She is time and she is also the destroyer of time. She is timeless (black like space). She is not the cycle of destruction. She is the cycle of liberation from samskara tendencies and limitation. She will stop at nothing to destroy anything that stands in liberations way. Like time, ideologies, ego, labelling, titles. She doesn't care for formalities or politeness she cares for truth and cuts through B.S. She invites a level of intensity at first however once you are touched by her ferocious grace she is sheer love, the great beloved. She is supreme yet soft, guiding you back to your true essence and nature. Plugging into Kali essence is sheer ecstasy and freedom. The seat of Kali - the dark mother - sits at the heart. She brings you home to the heart. To truth.

The practice reminds us to move beyond our stuck points, to trust and lean into resistance over sabotage, to refine at every opportunity and go deep into the boundless gaps in between, with the rhythm of our sacred breath. To listen to the spaciousness and intelligent information we create within our silence, to live awake. To move beyond the confines of ego bound constant noise of likes and dislikes. To choose what keeps us steady in truth. Honouring that, this is why it is called, 'The house of Kali'.

Sadhana (practice) makes it possible to access this. And just remember when I'm talking about yoga I never mean just asana (poses), it is all encompassing and involves purposeful breath, sound vibrations and hand shapes and meditation and puja rituals etc.

My calling is to teach yoga as a science of self-remembrance, to support others through mental health work, and to advocate for living with vitality (ojas) and truth (vidya). Hence my personal and professional motto; Onwards, Upwards and Inwards!

My studies continue to deepen — through Himalayan ashram immersions and initiations, ongoing advanced YTTs, and a commitment to remain forever the student. Because a teacher can only take others as deep as they’ve gone themselves. And while we get to be on the planet together, I'd love to drop in as deep as we can go if it calls you to, too. After all we are all just walking eachother home. Lets make it a quality walk.

I hold a special interest in yoga for mental health, yoga therapy, Ayurveda, and mind-body science — fields shaped by my own life: raising a neurodiverse child, caring for family with chronic illness and Parkinson’s, being exposed to abuse and addiction, sending many souls off early in life from suicide, overdose, car accidents, murder and  learning through this, that being of service is the highest form of intelligence. And not just people pleasing. Not allowing ones self to burn out either. Really being of honest service- to self and then others. The humbling truth that you actually cannot genuinely give anything unless you yourself are willing to receive. And also to give without an agenda to get something specific back. Skillful service.

Ultimately, my mission is simple: to inspire radical self-love and remembrance of the sacred breath — our first teacher, and our last. Our main life long teacher.

After more than seven years of teaching, I still consider it the greatest privilege to witness people awakening to their own power.

To serve others in rising into their higher purpose — that is my higher purpose.

Why HOUSE OF KALI?

FORMERLY: OJA YOGA

STILL: Be your best ' badassana ' self.

Welcome to the Casa of Kali. 'Mi casa, es su casa!' The space is unique and intimate. Kali has your back and is in your corner. Serving you to nurture your higher self, serves hers. Kali's teaching style is authentic and grass roots and lasts beyond just the session. Leading us into being our own solid pillar of strength, simultaneously allowing ourselves to surrender back into softness. A safe space where we give ourselves permission to smooth out all the edges, move into ease and out of dis-ease, release built up stored tension, exhaling the stagnant perceived obstacles and inhaling prana life energy, shakti power and bhakti love.

The teachings are trauma informed. Encouraging you to meet yourself exactly where you are. Not trying to be anything more, while honouring not to be anything less. Finding the sweet spot in between. Creating gaps of dynamic stillness and blissful spaciousness to receive intelligent information when we finally cut through all the noise. Empowering you and enlivening you to be the best version of yourself - drawing upon your bodies own natural intelligence through ancient yogic wisdom. Connecting to self, to breath, to heart, to spirit, to nature and to community. Come as you are and leave feeling luminously lit.
